Haiti: After the Earthquake
May We Never Forget
Silence, dreadful silence
Has crept over the land.
Devastation has occurred.
They long for a helping hand.
They yearn for a rescuer.
They long for a friend.
They need to know God,
for His friendship has no end.
They cry themselves to sleep.
They live mourning by and by.
They curse and scream and shout and yell.
They ask and wonder why.
Silence, horrible silence,
Meets them day after day.
The grief eats at their soulds.
They wonder where they should go and stay.
Silence, heart stopping silence
Is knocking at your door.
You cannot run, you cannot hide.
You can hardly breathe anymore.
You have to let it in.
There is nothing else to do.
Open the door and go and see
what the devastation has done to you.
Silence, broken silence,
Broken from a distant sound
Made by a group of singing people
All gathered around.
They are singing to God
Who does and has cared,
For they sing out of thankfulness
Because their lives have been spared.
For they are gathered together
singing a well known hymn,
Praising and thanking the Lord
knowing about His love for them.
Some still need a Savior.
Some still need to know.
So go and tell and pray for them
For you cannot harvest what you do not sow.
They need to go to battle
and fight with the Sword,
Fighting off the sorrow and grief
Fighting with the Savior, our Lord.
