Red Letters Review

While advocating for the orphan has always been a passion of mine, the crisis of HIV/AIDS in Africa and the world has always seemed to be one of those issues that was so overwhelming that I couldn't even think about it.

This morning, however, as I sit across my desk from the most precious child who is learning his English ABC's and 123's, I stand amazed at how the Lord breaks into our lives to reveal to us His heart. Who would have thought that the Lord would bring knowledge of the HIV/AIDS crisis to our family by so graciously giving us an African orphan to call our son. Just a few short months ago, our son was living in crushing poverty among countless men, women, and children who were suffering from plights that are rare in the States. Hunger, lack of clean water, malaria, and HIV/AIDS were amongst the many crises facing those he lived around.

After returning home, I received my copy of Red Letters: Living a Faith that Bleeds. I wept and felt encouraged and inspired as I read the pages spurring believers of Christ on to work for the cause of the orphan. While reading the book, I was reminded of the faces of the many sick and hungry mothers who were packing their babies, and the children who seemed to have no mother in sight, barely clothed and dirty.

In his book, Tom Davis, president of Children's HopeChest, vividly reminds each of us of our responsibility to do what we can to help those in need. I will never look at these Red Letters from Matthew 25:38-40 in the same light...

"When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'"

Don't wait any longer to be the hands and feet of Christ. Feel free to read the first chapter of Tom's book here: Red Letters: Living a Faith That Bleeds.

Make a difference. Live God's Word.
